International Lab Tech - Carneros Hills Winery
POSITION DESCRIPTION Under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician will daily prepare samples and perform routine analyses on juices, musts, fermenting wines/finished wines, and report data into our data management systems (LIMS and BIMS). This position requires the ability to follow directions safely, accurately, and in a timely manner. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with the winemaking team, as well as the Cellar staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Duties include but are not limited to the following: • Prepare reagents, and standards • Prepare and analyze samples in a timely manner • Log samples and record results in spreadsheets and database (LIMS/BIMS) • Monitor tank and barrel fermentations as requested • Collect representative samples from tanks and barrels • Communicate effectively with supervisor and other laboratory staff • Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance • Other duties as assigned by supervisor • Participate in lab general housekeeping • Understand hazardous material and safety procedures BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE Science degree or previous lab experience is preferred, as well as a background in Enology, microbiology, chemistry or biochemistry. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret cellar work orders, and work lists, attention to safety and procedures is required. Capable to work in a team environment is essential. Ability to work various shifts, flexible hours including weekend and overtime. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Required to stand long periods of time, occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and able to lift and move up to 50 pounds of weight. Must successfully complete post-offer pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.

2018 Vintage Cellar Hands and Winemakers in British Columbia
As part of our harvest team you will be exposed to all facets of grape processing and fermentation management. Winemaking will include, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities: punching down Small Batches Wine, pump overs, pressing reds with basket press, pressing whites with bladder press, barrel work, sampling vineyards, fermentation monitoring, some lab work, dragging hoses, draining tanks, transferring juice/wine, racking juice/wine, sanitizing tanks, hand-sorting fruit, crushing and howling with coyotes at night! Positions generally begin in early September and run through to late November, depending on the vintage. However, we do have openings for candidates that would like to start earlier (May or June, 2018). Road 13 does not offer housing but will assist in the search. A popular plan for several of our past Harvest staff has been to work through to November or even mid-December, and then hit the mountains and ski or snowboard for several weeks, weather permitting.
